As Margate no longer enjoys the status of a Borough, the Mayoralty is administered by the Margate Charter Trustees, these being those elected members of Thanet District Council whose wards lie within the boundary of the old Borough of Margate.

On Monday 18 May 2026, at St John’s Church, Margate, and in the presence of invited guests, Cllr Leo Britcher was elected Mayor of Margate for 2026/27, with Tamara S Campbell as Mayoress. Cllr Martin Boyd was elected Deputy Mayor, with Elizabeth Stone as Deputy Mayoress.
